Love love love this series! And this book was an excellent addition. I really appreciate how the author continues character development without it feeling like something ‘thrown in’ out of the blue. I really can’t wait for the next one.

Rating: ★★★★★
Series: All Souls #1
Publication Date: February 8, 2011

Genre: Fantasy
Publisher: Viking Books
This is one of those books I wish I hadn’t discovered until after all three books had been published. I started this book on a Friday and hardly put it down until I finished on the Sunday morning.
The author did a stunning job of making the writing so vivid, I was there in the story watching it unfold like a movie; much more vividly than I normally am able to do. Books about magic are a treat for me and this one was not at all disappointing, with plenty of action and a nice balance, I think, between giving enough information to be vivid, but not enough to be graphic.
It’s going to really suck having to wait until next year for the second book.
Glazed Murder: A Donut Shop Mystery (Donut Shop Mysteries)
I’m not sure I’d read any more in this series – the writing felt very stiff and earnest, even though I could see that she was trying to write characters that weren’t. The only time the writing felt natural to me was in the dialog between her and her mother – I really liked seeing the mother/daughter relationship portrayed with mutual affection and equal sniping. 🙂 Her reasons for ‘investigating’ felt forced though and in the end it was a book I had to labor through.
I Scream, You Scream (Mystery a la Mode Series #1)
A light, quick read, this is one of those series I think I might like more with each book. The plot was a little bit disjointed, but ultimately, interesting. I just had to get to the end before realizing it.
I sort of suspected who done it, but not why, early on in the book. The characters were well written, and I liked Bree and Alice – they lent humour and color to the story. I’m looking forward to forward momentum with Finn as well.
Overall, a good story, and I’m looking forward to reading the next one.
Dead or Alive
Excellent. Typical Tom Clancy and I enjoyed it just as much as the rest. I know he’s a love ’em or hate ’em author, but I’m in the love ’em camp and I’ve missed reading about the characters that have been a part of the Jack Ryan series all these years. Now they’re all together again and kicking bad guy ass. I hope there will be more to come.
