Private investigators Liz Talbot and Nate Andrews thought theyβd put Darius Bakerβs troubles to restβthen his recently discovered son ropes him into a hemp farm investment with his college buddies. When a beloved Charleston professorβand potential investorβis murdered, Liz and Nate discover Darius keeps the PIs on speed dial.
A shocking number of people had reasons to want the genteel, bowtie wearing, tea-drinking professor dead. Was it one of his many girlfriends or a disgruntled student? Or perhaps Murray was killed because his failure to invest meant the hemp farm trioβs dreams were going up in smoke? Though Lizβs long-dead best friend, Colleen, warns her the stakes are far higher than Liz imagines, she is hellbent on finding the no-good killer among the bevy of suspects. But will the price of justice be more than Liz can bear?
Another solid entry in what’s been a very dependable, well-written series. Β The mystery itself was a little predictable, but I can’t be certain the author didn’t intend that, as the clues weren’t subtle; a story about PIs wouldn’t really work with subtle and still be fair to the readers.
There’s some character development in this one, as well as references to a previous plot that make this less than ideal as a standalone, and it’s wroth the time to start at the beginning with book 1.
I remember you were having issues with WP. Is it treating you any better or is it all still a battle?
Hello MurderByDeath – I’m here off a rec from Mr. Bookstooge. I have great trouble with JetPack on my self hosted site. Everything seems fine on .org’s end as for as sync with .com. Everyhing else on the site works quite well except for what I’m mentioning here. Here are the problems:
Randomly, posts will not show in the reader. Some will. Some won’t.
Conversations still aren’t showing after several resets and .org support telling me everything looks fine on their end.
What I have done so far is not a lot, like I said besides resetting JetPack a couple of times, and then initiating a manual sync. Do you have any suggestions or maybe a list of steps that you took to get your self-hosted site to work correctly? I really feel like I and my readers deserve something that works well.
If you would rather email me about it – my email is mckinley s h twenty seven at g mail dot com, except for the twenty seven is numbers instead of letters.
Thank you so much for any direction or guidance you can provide,
S.D. McKinley
Hi there – Sorry about the delay, it will surprise you not at all that I only got notification today. I wish I could say I had answers, but I’ve had the exact same issues with random posts not appearing in the reader and conversations have been a total failure for me. I see everyone of Bookstooge’s posts’ conversations, but unless I manually follow individual conversations on other friends sites, I don’t see any of them. It’s been frustrating in the extreme, but while in the past I’d have dug my heels in and figured it all out, this year has left me apathetic, or just petulant (I’m on WP only because my favorite site has been struggling).
Maybe I’ll find the wherewithal to do battle with it in 2021, but really it’s incredibly frustrating. As you say, we all deserve better.
Pretty much a battle and what works is clunky. π
Thank you for the response. That gives me a good indication it’s just simply broken for .org users. I did load up a test .com site and let’s just say “I was in there like swimwear”, with the comments showing up in reader under conversations. It’s the re-.org-anization of WordPress I guess you could say. πππ I’ll save you from any more of my jokes with cheese on top. Thanks again! π
I am sorry to hear that. Best of luck in however you decide to proceed then.
